Lisa Quinn-Schofield

Lisa Quinn-Schofield was born in 1975 & grew up living along the coast and surrounded by horses within her family which had a huge impact on her life creating a love for horses and animals.
Lisa naturally & intuitively has a close affiliation with the land, ocean and nature itself – its calming colours and rich textures are a constant source of inspiration for the creation of her art.

Lisa graduated in 1998 from Claremont School of Art (Tafe) & was taught by some of Australia’s most successful & accomplished artists completing her 3 year Diploma of Fine Art & Design majoring in painting.

From 1998 onwards, Lisa has been commissioned to do many paintings for residential, commercial & retail clients - see her CV for more details

Lisa was offered a place at Curtin University to complete a degree BA (ART) in 2004 majoring in painting & experimental drawing & minoring in ceramics.
Through her university years and after graduating Lisa worked full time as head designer of the ladies division for a local surf company creating many collections of clothing, prints & accessories that were distributed internationally. Lisa then went on to start a family with her husband Trent in 2007.

Throughout this time, Lisa was lucky enough to travel to the Milan Furniture Fair amongst other design fairs around the world & it was here that Lisa saw the fusion of ART, DESIGN & INTERIORS which sparked a real passion in her for doing something unique. After completing further studies in Interiors, Lisa launched FEATHERHORSE STUDIO in 2012 with the vision of combining her love and passion for art & interiors.

Being a Mum of two daughters & running a successful interiors business has dominated Lisa’s time from 2007 -2019. It wasn’t until 2019 that Lisa decided to re-launch her career as a professional artist. Lisa is regularly commissioned to do artworks for homes and commercial spaces and continues to grow her art practice.

Inspiration

In early 2020, we were faced with a global pandemic and on a personal level, my father was diagnosed with cancer at the same time and died 6 months later. My world instantly changed.

Like many others, during this time, I felt overwhelmed & my mind was racing. Instinctively, I was drawn to be within nature, I needed quiet, calm and grounding to get through everything. I had to gather my thoughts and slow things down & stay within the present moment.

The world suddenly felt like it stopped and I was forced to also. I began seeing & feeling things that are always there but I had simply stopped noticing them. In the busy bustle of life, I had become numb to my own surroundings and in some respect, to myself also.

I felt like my eyes were suddenly open. I could see the dappled light that the gum leaves create on the surface of the earth, the shapes and vivid colours of wild flowers, the dried grasses dancing in the breeze, the way the sunset reflects on the wet sand at the beach, the silver foliage growing on the sand dunes, the rocks that have been there longer than us – so much history. It truly felt profound and I wanted to paint all of it and so it began.

I painted what I felt, what I saw, what I remembered & what I dreamed. Making marks, experimenting with colour, layering and creating textures. It felt very primal and very instinctive evolving naturally. For the first time in my creative life, there was no brief and no boundaries – I was free like when I was a child just making art without judgement and at one with the moment in time.

Through this emotional creative journey, I reignited my deep spiritual connection with nature that has always been there but I lost sight of it through being occupied with life. I used to spend hours as a child in the bush, playing with nature, at one with nature and here I was, revisiting that space.

I continue to focus on those ‘moments of magic within nature itself. I acknowledge and feel my connection to the land & its healing powers & the realisation that we are actually a part of nature and not separate to it – there is connectedness that nourishes and sustains us. I hope to create connection between these feelings and my work and in turn connect to others through my work.
